Take a midday break and travel across Europe through sound. Join us for a unique lunchtime concert that brings together the rich and contrasting folk traditions of the Baltics and the Balkans.
Stefan Miladinov, a second-year master's student in the "Folk Music from outside of Scandinavia" program at KMH, will anchor the first half of the journey. Armed with the tambura, Stefan will showcase the intricate melodies, driving odd-meter rhythms, and vibrant acoustic resonance of traditional Macedonian music. In addition, he will play a few traditional Swedish tunes.
Maria Mänd, a first-year Nordic Master in Folk Music student currently studying at KMH, will perform some of her favourite Estonian tunes on the violin and tagelharpa, exploring their sounds through electronics while preserving the original material.
To close out the afternoon, Maria and Stefan will join forces for a special collaborative finale. Together, they will weave their musical roots and their current environment into a shared performance, playing one Macedonian, one Estonian, and one Swedish tune to round out a true cross-cultural exchange.
